How can we help?
How do I add the widget?
Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget, search for Word of the Day, and pick the small or medium size. For the Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize › Lock Screen, then tap the widget area.
The widget shows the same word as the app and switches to the new word shortly after midnight. It also uses the theme you chose in the app.
Why does the widget show yesterday’s word?
iOS decides exactly when widgets refresh, so the new word can appear a little after midnight. Opening the app updates it right away.
How do I choose my level and word lists?
Go to Settings › Daily Word Preferences. General English is free and sorted by CEFR level (A1 to C2). Premium adds Business, Travel, Phrasal Verbs, Idioms, Feelings & Personality, and Food & Cooking, each at Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced, and Uncommon Words, 365 rare words with their origins. Changes apply from tomorrow’s word.
Can I get a different word today?
Yes, once a day: tap the circular arrow (New word) on the home screen. Free users watch a short ad first; with Premium there is no ad.
What does Premium include, and how do I restore it?
Premium removes all ads and unlocks every theme, your own photo as a background, all word lists, a new word without an ad, and Ask AI on devices that support Apple Intelligence. It is a yearly or monthly subscription, or a one-time Lifetime purchase, through the App Store; the price is shown in the app before you buy.
On a new iPhone, or after reinstalling, open Settings › Restore Purchases while signed in with the same Apple Account.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open Settings › Premium › Manage Subscription in the app, or iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Word of the Day. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You keep Premium until the end of the period you paid for.
Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Why don’t I see Ask AI?
Ask AI uses Apple Intelligence, which runs on your iPhone. It appears only on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, when it is turned on in Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri and its model has finished downloading. It is part of Premium. Your chat stays on your device and is not saved.
Is my own photo private?
Yes. You choose one photo with Apple’s photo picker, so the app never sees the rest of your library. The photo is saved only on your iPhone, for the app and your widgets, and is never uploaded. Choosing another photo replaces it; deleting the app removes it.
Can I change the app icon?
Yes. Go to Settings › App Icon. Classic is the standard icon; Page and Leaf are free, and eight more come with Premium.
Can Siri say today’s word?
Yes. Say “Speak today’s word in Word of the Day”. You can also add the Speak Today’s Word control to Control Center, the Lock Screen or the Action button, or tap the speaker on the medium widget. Choose the voice and accent in Settings › Voice & Accent.
What do the buttons under the word do?
Translate opens Google Translate into your iPhone’s language, Videos plays short clips of real people saying the word (YouGlish, from YouTube), News finds the word in Engoo Daily News, and Ask AI lets you chat about the word. Look up in Dictionary, under the definition, opens the Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries entry.
How do I change or turn off the daily reminder?
Go to Settings › Daily Reminder to set the time or turn it off. If it says “Disabled in System Settings”, allow notifications for Word of the Day in iPhone Settings › Notifications.
